Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department Celebrates New Sutphen Fire Engine with Push-In Ceremony

Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department invites the community to a Push-In Ceremony to celebrate the completion of the new custom built Sutphen Fire Engine this Saturday, July 9, beginning at 10:00 am at Fire Station #2 (2615 W. Woolbright Rd.).

During the 1800s, firefighters utilized horse-drawn equipment to service calls. When returning to the station, firefighters would detach the horses and push the equipment into the bay.

In honor of those early crews, many fire departments when taking a delivery of a new apparatus hold a push-in ceremony, inviting community members to celebrate the exciting moment their tax dollars helped make possible.

The Fire Department’s Vehicle Committee began the purchase and design of the new apparatus nearly two years ago, incorporating several changes from past fire engines that have serviced the community for many years.

Now completed, this custom engine features a 1,000-gallon tank, 750’ of preconnected attack hose with Fire Hose Accessories ready to deploy in a moment’s notice, a shorter wheel base to maneuver through smaller communities, a fire pump rated to pump 1,500 gallons per minute and an on board 30-gallon foam tank. In addition, the engine is equipped with medical shelving units making it a certified Advanced Life Support Truck.

The Vehicle Committee spent hundreds of hours reviewing spec sheets and inspecting the build multiple times throughout the process to ensure citizens and visitors are serviced with the best equipment.

Be sure to bring your family! Children will receive a complimentary fire hat and given the opportunity to take photos and tour the new engine.

Light refreshments will be served. No RSVP required.
