Message from the CEO: Moving Business Forward

Governor DeSantis signed several bills into law this past week during the Special Legislative Session, including the state’s new congressional map. An additional bill that was signed ends the special governing district that allows Walt Disney World Resort to operate as its own city.

A recent Florida Chamber statewide poll shows that Florida voters believe Florida is headed in the right direction. As the 15th largest global economy – the poll shows that voters are concerned about Jobs and the Economy, Education, Inflation, and Gas Prices. Additionally, the poll finds that Floridians believe Florida is the best place for good-paying jobs for the next generation rather than any other state. Working in partnership with the Florida Chamber, our elected leaders, and industry experts, the Boca Chamber continues to create awareness and growth opportunities for Floridians to gain competitive wages and employment.

For more than 60 years, Presidents of the United States have proclaimed the first week of May as National Small Business Week. This year, May 1-7, we celebrate our small businesses and recognize the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. In a recent study, it was found that more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business and create approximately two out of every three new jobs in the United States each year. The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) also uses this week to showcase the many critical resources and partners of the SBA, which provide support, counsel, advice, and access to capital to help grow and sustain these businesses. We look forward to seeing you at our May Membership Breakfast – next week on Thursday, May 5! The event is being sponsored by Discover The Palm Beaches-the County’s official tourism arm responsible for marketing our beautiful destination. The one-week earlier change in date allows us to celebrate National Tourism Week – which coincides with National Small Business Week.
