Laurie Sherman Silvers Inducted into the Miami Beach Senior High School Hall of Fame

Boca Raton, FL Laurie Sherman Silvers, Immediate Past Co-Chair and Board Member of South Florida PBS, was inducted into the Miami Beach Senior High School Hall of Fame on Nov. 15th. Silvers, joined by six additional notable alumni, gathered for the 21st Annual Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon at the Temple Israel of Greater Miami Wolfson Auditorium to be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments.

Silvers became a Miami Beach resident at the age of 12, attending local public schools Nautilus Junior High and Miami Beach Senior High, graduating as part of MBSHS’s Class of 1970. Soon after, she attended the University of Miami, where she studied law. Silvers practiced law for 10 years, eventually opening her own law practice in 1985. She then decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue her passion for business, focusing on content creation and technology. Since then, she has become the Co-Founder of the successful SyFy Channel, Broadway.com, MovieTickets.com and Hollywood.com.  

“Laurie’s well-deserved recognition is a result of her accomplishments, dedication and philanthropic contributions to the community she calls home,” said Dolores Sukhdeo, South Florida PBS President and CEO. “As a product of the Miami-Dade Public School system, her successes are testament to the quality of our local education and its role in creating leaders.” 

Laurie served as president on the South Florida PBS board during the merger of WPBT and WXEL in 2015. Since then, the successes of SFPBS have reached new heights with YOY revenue growth, increased community visibility and also becoming the countries 7th largest TV market. As a media entrepreneur, her industry experience in broadcast, including radio, have contributed to SFPBS.
