West Palm Beach Man Sent to Jail For Missing Jury Duty Sees a Lesser Probation

A couple of weeks ago, West Palm Beach 21-year-old, was sentenced to 10 days in jail for missing jury duty.

The 21-year-old man, DeAndre Somerville overslept and missed jury duty, delaying the trial for 45 minutes as court employees attempted to reach him.

This past Friday, Somerville filled an entire courtroom to truly show the judge his character.

Somerville wrote and read a letter to the court explaining his mistakes and apologizing.

According to WPTV, Judge Kastrenakis got a lot of insight on the kind of person Somerville is. His family fought for his character explaining that he is a good person.

Somerville is a church drummer, cares for his disabled grandfather, volunteers at food drives, and assists with Habitat for Humanity.

His family reiterated his age, stating that he is only 21 and 21-year-olds make mistakes sometimes.

Somerville’s public defender attempted to have his case thrown out all together, but the judge decided to withhold Somerville’s conviction while entertaining a future motion to drop the contempt charge.

Somerville’s probation was reduced from 12 months to 3 months with the condition that Somerville educated other jurors once a week, on the importance of serving on a jury.
