Friends of Boca Raton Public Library Donate for Mobile Van

Check Presentation at Friends Board Meeting

The Friends of The Boca Raton Public Library

Donates $77,075  for Library Mobile Van

Boca Raton, FL  – The Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library has generously donated $77,075 to the Boca Raton Public Library for the purchase of a new library mobile van. The check was presented to Michael Kalvort, Recreation Services Director, and Ellen Randolph, Manager of Library Services, at the Friends Board meeting on October 10, 2019. After library staff presented the idea to the Friends, the Board voted unanimously to fund the majority of the cost for the vehicle. The new van will provide library materials, resources and services to residents without access to traditional library buildings due to mobility, transportation, and/or socio-economic limitations.

“We are pleased to share this good news for our community,” notes Cyndi Bloom, President of the Friends Board of Directors. “Thank you to our members, donors and bookstore customers for supporting our efforts through their membership fees and donations to help us fund this worthwhile project!” The Friends of the Library is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the Downtown and Spanish River libraries. They raise money through memberships to the Friends organization, grants, and book sales at the bookstore in the Downtown Library.

“The Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library has been a supporter and advocate for outstanding library services for almost 30 years,” says Ellen Randolph, Manager of Library Services. “The Friends’ wonderful bookstore and fundraising events have allowed the library to offer more Summer Reading programs to prevent loss of youth reading skills during the summer, as well as the Discover Studio, a maker space and computer lab for youth and adult technology, software and coding classes. Now, with this new gift, the Friends will help us provide expanded access to library services for all our residents. As an essential partner in our growing library community, it is especially appropriate that we celebrate the Friends this week during National Friends of Libraries Week!”
