Delray Beach’s Division Fire Chief Resigns Following His DUI Arrest

Robert Hoecherl, division chief for the Delray Beach Fire Department recently resigned his position due to a DUI arrest that was a huge cause for concern.

A city official recently confirmed Hoecherl’s letter of resignation was received on October 21st, three days following his DUI arrest.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that Hoecherl’s arrest occurred when he was driving a Delray Beach Fire Department SUV on a flat tire on 95.

The incident took place on October 17 around 8:30 p.m. south of Gateway Blvd.

The left tire of the SUV he was driving was clearly in very bad condition and troopers state it left the vehicle sitting on the rim.

According to WPTV, when Hoecherl was pulled over he displayed slurred speech and reeked of alcohol. He also demonstrated some other signs of being under the influence such as bloodshot and glassy eyes.

Hoecherl was arrested and taken to Palm Beach County Jail, still refusing to take a breath test and evidently leading to his resignation.
