Best Buddies “Heroes of Inclusion” Gala to Name its Champion of the Year on November 1st

Best Buddies® is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies® is a vibrant, international organization that engages participants in each of the 50 United States, and in 50 countries around the world, positively impacting individuals with and without disabilities worldwide.

The concept of Best Buddies® is simple, but important.  Imagine a world where someone with a disability has trouble making friends and socializing in middle school, high school or college. Best Buddies® pairs students with and without disabilities in a one-to-one friendships and helps student leaders plan monthly activities for students to socialize and hang out together.  Life-long friendships are made and students both with and without disabilities experience social inclusion.

Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our programs empower the special abilities of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.

Best Buddies® also has programs for adults with disabilities, the Citizens Program (Adult Friendship similar to the school program) and the Jobs program which helps facilitate employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

This event is where dynamic community leaders engage in a ten-week fundraising competition to earn the Best Buddies® “Champion of the Year” title.  The campaign started with an exciting Kick-Off Party and will end with an event where the overall winner who raises the most money in support of the Best Buddies® mission will be announced.

Best Buddies® envisions a world where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are successfully integrated into every community and their programs are no longer needed.

Best Buddies® wants to show the world that people with disabilities deserve respect and you can help us achieve our goals through your financial support.

Join the celebratory gala benefiting Best Buddies. Along with food, drinks, silent auction, and live music, the evening will be filled friendship and celebration as they crown Palm Beach’s Champion of the Year with Honorary Champion, Antonio Sabato Jr.
