Last Week Marked the Beginning of the Social Season for South Palm Beach County:
Monday was Real Men Wear Pink, this is, Men Fighting Breast Cancer.
Breast cancer affects everyone, women and men. That’s why 24 men were recruited to fight breast cancer through Real Men Wear Pink.

This distinguished group of community leaders is determined to raise awareness and money to support the American Cancer Society’s mission and save more lives, than ever before, from breast cancer.
Every dollar raised helps the American Cancer Society save lives from breast cancer through early detection and prevention, innovative breast cancer research, and patient support. Thanks to the passion of our Real Men Wear Pink supporters, we’re able to make a huge impact on the mission to end breast cancer.

On Tuesday the Rotary Club of Boca Raton held a VIP reception to celebrate the individuals to be honored for their contributions to the community. OPAL – Outstanding People and Leaders is an annual red-carpet Gala (held every year for the past 21 years by the Rotary Club of Boca Raton) honoring citizens from Boca Raton who have demonstrated an on-going commitment to serve our city through philanthropic, professional leadership, education, civil, community and medical service endeavors.

This year’s honorees include Toby and Leon Cooperman, Jerry Kramer, Laura Reiss (Kindness 365), Doris and Neil Gillman and Sue and Yaacov Heller.
The program also includes a list of past award winners which is truly a “who’s who” of the most impressive and warm-hearted individuals our community has to offer. These individuals are the reason why Boca Raton is such a remarkable place to live, work and raise a family.
More importantly, over the years OPAL has raised over $1.4 million and empowered over 350 high-achieving, disadvantaged local students with financial assistance through our scholarship program. This was made possible as a result of the generosity of the esteemed Honorees, guests and participants and those students were able to pursue careers of their choice and change the outcome of their futures.
The Rotarians believe that helping and giving is part of human nature. Only those who have never been to OPAL have missed the opportunity to see those touching and inspiring moments of that phenomenal human nature in action. It is an extraordinary night in many ways.

Continuing Tuesday evening, Women Changing the Game was presented by Northwestern Mutual was a night full of food, fun, and female empowerment. The event was hosted by GL Homes at their new 7 Bridges community in Delray Beach.

Women throughout the community enjoyed a panel discussion featuring executives from the Miami Heat including Executive Vice President & General Council Raquel Libman, Vice President Business Communication & Social Responsibility Lorrie-Ann Diaz, Vice President Creative & Digital Marketing Jennifer Alvarez and from the title sponsor, Northwest Mutual, Financial Advisor Brooke McKernan.
Emcee, Keli Furguson of ESPN 106.3 on WPTV NewsChannel 5 and Fox 29, asked the panel questions regarding their current job responsibilities, exciting developments within their companies, sacrifices they had to make to get to where they are now, and what it is like to be a top female executive.
With over 100 attendees, the event proved that women are a force to be reckoned with and are making strides not only in sports, but in other industries as well.

The mission of Connected Warriors, as explained by Judy Weaver and Commander Ken Bingham, is to empower service members, veterans and their families worldwide through Trauma-Conscious Yoga. Also on Thursday evening, Junior League of Boca Raton kicked off their “Women Volunteer of the Year” with a reception at the Women’s Center at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Every year, the Woman Volunteer of the Year Luncheon celebrates outstanding women by recognizing volunteers from nonprofit organizations throughout Palm Beach County for their dedication to fulfilling the mission of the nonprofits they serve.
All 37 nominees for this year’s event were invited to mix and mingle and were presented with a gift by Heather Shaw from Saks Fifth Avenue.
The Junior League of Boca will host the Women Volunteer of the Year luncheon at the Boca Raton Resort and Club on November 8, 2019. This commemorative event celebrates incredible women volunteers in our community doing amazing things to make our community better and brighter!

Friday was a night to remember with great performances by community members and over $600,000 raised for scholarships.
Community Dancers and their professional dance partners
The George Snow Boca Ballroom Battle, held at the Boca Raton Resort, entertained the 400+ in attendance.
Paired with professional dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Boca Raton, community leaders were given a series of dance lessons to perfect a routine, and then competed for the Fundraising “Mirror Ball.” All proceeds from the event will benefit the George Snow Scholarship Fund.

About the Foundation: The George Snow Scholarship Fund, a Boca Raton-based 501(c) 3 public charity, provides educational grants to some of our areas brightest and most deserving young scholars.
These scholarships are four-year commitments and are designed to bridge the gap between other financial aid and what the scholar and their families can afford. In addition, the Scholarship Fund provides products and services designed to benefit all Snow Scholars. No other organization of this kind provides so much support to their scholarship recipients.

Guests will begin their evening with Champagne and hors d’oeuvres, in the Boca Raton Resort’s Cloister Garden, before boarding a trolley to start their tour. After guests enjoy dinner-by-the-bite and signature cocktails, at a variety of Boca Raton restaurants and venues, the trolleys will return guests to the Boca Raton Resort & Club. The evening will conclude with dessert, dancing, and a cash bar at the Resort’s Palm Court.

Hearts & Soles Casino Night – October 4th from 6 – 10:30PM
Please join AACY on Friday, Oct 4th at 6 PM for their Hearts and “Soles” Casino Night. The evening will feature live entertainment, dinner and drinks, and fabulous casino games, all to benefit the youth caregivers in Palm Beach County.
