Palm Beach County Sheriff Avoids Felony Charge After Causing Crash That Put an 18-Year Old in a Coma

Back in July 2018, a Delray Beach crash put Boca Raton resident, Farrah Fox, in a coma.

Fox was 18 at the time when she was receiving a ride to work from a friend. Deputy Michael D’Avanzo then ran his truck through a stop sign at Northeast First Avenue and Northeast Third Street, Atlantic Avenue, and crashed into Fox at 53 mph.

Fox was about to become a Sophomore at UCF when she was put in a coma for the first month.

According to the Palm Beach Post, on December 13, county prosecutors stated they would not follow the recommendation of the Delray Police to charge D’Avanzo with two felony counts of reckless driving.

D’Avanzo pleaded “not guilty” to the tickets in February, but he was fined $500 with his drivers license taken for three months and indefinite administrative leave without pay.

The investigation has recently been completed and Fox’s family has filed a lawsuit.
