New Local “Hands-Free” Rule Beginning in October Attempts to Stop Distracted Driving

Although many are aware of Florida’s recent texting and driving law, police have faced several obstacles dealing with citations.

According to WPTV, the Florida highway Patrol reported that officers issued 438 warnings and 542 citations since July, associated with texting and driving.

The reason numbers were so low is due to tickets only being issued in the circumstance of a severe crash caused by cellphone usage.

As of this October, officers will have greater abilities for citations due to driving with a cellphone in hand through construction or school zones, possibly becoming illegal.

There can still be some loopholes to this rule but police hope it will help end distracted driving and make the roads a safer place.
