Driver in Palm Beach County Killed Due to Brightline Crash

Palm Beach County has recently witnessed several deaths linked to railroad track crossings.

On Friday night, September 6, a 47-year-old male was killed after a collision with a Brightline Train.

The 47-year-old male was identified as Paul Smith. Smith was stopped at the train crossing along Avon Road as a southbound train approached.

According to Sun Sentinel, Sgt David Lefont stated that the railroad track gates had gone down and Smith was clearly trying to pass through.

Smith was driving a 2008 Corvette when he crashed into a Brightline train at around 9 p.m. on the tracks just West of U.S. 1 and north of Belvedere Road.

This very crash occurred 12 short hours after another woman was killed lying on the Tri-Rail tracks near Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale at 5:06 a.m.

As we are experiencing a plethora of deaths involved with railroads, citizens are urged to be careful and practice proper train safety. When you see the gate go down, sit patiently and wait for the train to pass safely.
