South Palm Beach County Social Scene

Where were you this week?

Pictured are Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton members.

Turns out Monday is a great day for the Funday Happy Hour with the Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton.  Affectionately named the “529 Club,” Club members and their guests enjoyed the initial venue at Mortons. The party moves to Chops Lobster Bar this week for the “Invitation Only” HAPPY HOUR (at 5:29PM). At the behest of Club president, Allen Konis, Frank Feiler has undertaken the mantle of Social Chair and has certainly accepted the task with great enthusiasm. If you are considering membership this would be a great way to meet the members in an informal setting. Reach out to Frank, Allen or any of the Rotarians if you’d like to join.

Boca Chamber Festival Days got off to a great start as the community cheered on the eight finalists in the 2019 Built Ford Tough Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Idol talent competition presented by Marshall Grant, PLLC at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus.

The event was part of the month-long Boca Chamber Festival Days and helped to support the Bowl’s Charity Partner, Spirit of Giving and its annual Back to School Bash.

After performing in two rounds, Evelyn and Raphael Martins, a sister/brother duet won the opportunity to perform the National Anthem during opening ceremonies at the 2019 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl on Saturday, December 21stat FAU Stadium.

Each year during the first weekend of August, the Boca Ballet Theatre presents its summer performance.

Robert Weinroth, Principal Dancers Kaleena Burks and James Kirby Rogers with Jeremy Rodgers

This year the BBT offered an enticing repertory performance featuring talented dancers from throughout the United States in a mix of sizzling, and modern choreography.

Artistic Directors, Jane Tyre and Dan Guin presented four mixed repertory productions, with the grand finale tribute to Freddie Mercury’s “Bohemian Rhapsody. It was inspired when Dan Guin attended a concert at the Southeast Ballet Association where he was “blown away” by new choreographers Ashlie Wells and Kassandra Taylor Newberry’s piece, Bohemian Rhapsody.

For the first time Kaleena Burks and James Kirby Rogers performed with Boca Ballet Theatre, courtesy of the Kansas City Ballet.

Sunday, two of the dancers, competing in “Boca’s Ballroom Battle” held mini fundraisers.  Jason, Twinkle Toes, Hagensick held a Master Zumba class at the YMCA and The Marvelous Mrs Margaret Blume hosted an evening of Art and Entertainment at the Cornell Art Museum. Both have been paired with professional dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Boca Raton and have been practicing a series of dance lessons to perfect a routine, and then compete for the Fundraising “Mirror Ball” trophy. This is the 12th annual dance showcase starring Boca Raton community leaders and patterned after the popular “Dancing with the Stars” television program! “Boca’s Ballroom Battle” will take place on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.
