South Florida Sees an Expansion of Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Due to the increase of medical marijuana users in Florida, the state has begun to see a tremendous growth in the number of marijuana dispensaries.

Last year, the South Florida only saw five medical marijuana dispensaries. Currently, Florida is home to more than 30 dispensaries across the tri-county region.

Sun Sentinel discussed the expansion of medical marijuana dispensaries in Florida more than tripling over the past year, from 46 to 148, according to the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use.

Medical Marijuana card-carrying patients in Florida have also more than doubled from 144,557 to 337,982, compared to a year ago.

As a result of these growing statistics, the spending on pot products in the U.S. is estimated to grow $23.4 billion by 2022, according to a recent review by Arcview Market Research and BDS Analytics.

Local dispensaries are looking towards the possibility of another business opportunity, the possibility that Florida will get approved for recreational marijuana after legalization.

Boca Raton, Margate, Tamarac, and Pembroke Pines are some of the cities in South Florida still banning medical marijuana dispensaries. However, Coral Springs reversed the ban in April and Boca Raton will be discussing the possibility of allowing dispensaries at the August 26th City Council workshop.
