Boca Raton, FL – The topic of last week’s program was the The Rotarian magazine.  Our Honorary member PDG Dick Hattwick, made an outstanding presentation.

The first “Rotarian” was published in January 1911.  It was initiated by Rotary’s Founder and president, Paul Harris.  Chesley Perry was the first editor and held that position until 1928.

At first it was named The National Rotarian but in 1912 with the formation of clubs in Canadian and England, the name was changed to “The Rotarian” in September 1912.

Dick said that there are 4 reasons that we all should read the Rotarian every month.

  1. Inspiration from reading what other clubs are doing.
  2. Re-dedication to “Service Above Self”, The Object of Rotary, The 4 Way Test and the motto “Those who profit most serve the best”
  3. Find many opportunities to become involved in International Service
  4. Become an active part of our Brotherhood/Sisterhood of caring people.

He also said that he always starts by reading the RI President’s message, which helps him understand what goals Rotary is trying to achieve.

In closing he pointed out that by reading the Rotarian faithfully we become better Rotarians by gaining a better knowledge of our organization.
