FPL is Developing a Plan for Hurricane Dorian

Hurricane Dorian is slowly approaching and with its path nearing Florida, FPL has begun prepping for any possible power outages.

FPL’s command center in Riviera Beach is currently fully activated and according to WPTV, there are currently 13,000 people ready for the restoration effort.

The logistics manager for FPL, Barry Wilkinson, told WPTV that in light of prepping for Dorian’s impact there are 15,000 transformers and 27,000 poles across the system.

FPL has transformers prepared outside of the command center, with 3 million gallons of biodiesel for vehicles and 75,000 miles of wire to repair broken lines.

Due to the uncertainty that Hurricane Dorian brings, it is difficult for FPL to determine what areas will experience the heaviest damage and will need the most assistance with outages.

FPL is actively tracking the hurricane to identify the areas that they will need to stage the equipment at in order to solve the outages in a timely manner.
