The End of Kmart in Boca Raton

There are only a few remaining Kmarts in South Florida and as it turns out, the around 40-year-old Kmart in Boca Raton will be closing this October 31.

The store is located at 1401 W.Palmetto Park Road in Palmettos Park Square and occupies more than 100,000 square feet within the shared shopping plaza.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the Kmart spokesperson claimed the Boca Raton location “did not meet go-forward criteria,” and liquidation sales are already underway. It is also still unknown just how many workers will be affected by the store closure.

Due to the Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization filed in 2018, the Illinois-based Sears Holdings has been shutting down hundreds of Sears and Kmart stores.

With the Boca Raton Kmart closing, only two other Kmarts now remain in South Florida, one in Lantana and one in Hollywood.
