The Early Dawn Launch Of Atlas V Rocket

If you slept in this morning, you probably missed the 6:13 a.m. launch of an Air Force communications satellite traveling on an Atlas V rocket.

The satellite rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, leaving curvy cloud-like streaks across the Central to South Florida sky.

Twitter was instantly trending with breathtaking videos and photos of the launch early this dawn.

According to Sun Sentinel, the Advanced Extremely High Frequency Satellite cost $1.1 billion and marked the 80th Atlas V mission since 2002. The satellites are meant to replace the MILSTAR satellites already in orbit since the early 2000s. One of the AEHF satellites contains more capacity than an entire set of MILSTAR satellites, said launching agency of United Launch Alliance.

The sixth Air Force satellite in the constellation is set to launch in March 2020.
