Boca Raton, FL – Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education (CHHRE) recently announced several training opportunities for educators. The first two sessions, which will take place in the Performing Arts Building, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus, are free and participants will be paid a stipend.
“Women in the Holocaust: Perpetrators, Resistors, Rescuers and Victims,” will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and “The History of Anti-Semitism and Teaching Religion in the Classroom” will take place on Saturday, Oct 26 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. For more information and registration for these sessions, contact Linda Medvin at 561-297-2929 or lmedvin@fau.edu.
Educators can also apply to take part in the “Educator Field Study to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum” in Washington, D.C., which will take place Friday, Jan 31 to Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020. In this program, selected educators receive intensive training on Holocaust education, while exploring one of the most respected museums and Holocaust education centers in the world. The trip is open to all teachers in grades 5-12 from Palm Beach, Broward, St Lucie, Glades, Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee counties. The Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education (CHHRE) is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote respect for all people through the study of Holocaust, genocide and human rights, and is an integral unit of FAU’s Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative. The Center relies exclusively on private donations to provide Professional Learning programs and classroom resources for teachers and students, and community programs to support the mandated FL.ST 1003.42: Required Instruction of the Holocaust. Programs include teacher workshops, Holocaust Summer Institute, and an annual trip to the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C., as well as movie nights open to the community. The CHHRE serves more than 500 K-12 educators in public, private, charter, parochial and Jewish Day Schools throughout Broward, Palm Beach, St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River, Glades and Okeechobee counties.
