Philanthropists Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Featured in New Video by Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties

Boca Raton, FL – Philanthropists Virginia and Harvey Kimmel, who have been supporting programs for children and the arts for more than 30 years in South Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan, are being featured in a new video produced by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

The video was unveiled recently to an audience of 460 people at the Foundation’s Founder’s Luncheon at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach. It is also being featured on the organization’s web site.

“Harvey and Virginia Kimmel are thoughtful philanthropists that use a strategic, impact-based approach to their charitable giving. Through support from donors like the Kimmels, our community is strengthened one individual at a time. We deeply value our Foundation fundholders that make a difference every single day,” says Brad Hurlburt, president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

The two-minute video highlights the Kimmel’s generous support of three local organizations and projects through the Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Family Fund of the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties:

Milagro Center in Delray Beach, which recently opened the Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Milagro Junior Teen Center. The Kimmels also support the annual music program at Milagro Center, which provides after-school cultural arts and academic programs and summer camp for undeserved, academically at-risk youth,
Arts Garage in Delray Beach. The Kimmels have made a three-year commitment to underwrite the organization’s “Set the Stage” summer theatre camp, which provides open access to the camp through scholarships provided for local children,
SouthTech Academy in Boynton Beach. The Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Family Fund supports the organization’s Culinary Arts Academy, the Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Family STEM Lab at SouthTech Academy and the Boynton Beach Short Film Festival.

“There is nothing better than philanthropy,” said Harvey Kimmel in the video. He praised the Foundation for its own commitments to supporting local organizations and its flexibility in helping donors allocate their resources. “What they’ve been really good about is the idea of combined impact giving.”

Virginia Kimmel spoke of how important it is to vet an organization and the help the Community Foundation provides in the process: “People think, ‘Oh, just write a check.’ It’s not easy to give your money away. You have to make sure that the money is being spent as you expect and that change is happening with the students.”
