Boca Raton, FL – On Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 3pm, Music at St. Paul’s continues its 31st season with a concert titled, “Georgian Fantasy.” Featuring Georgian pianist Giorgi Chkhikvadze, the program begins with an international tour of music by Chopin, Scriabin, Wagner, and others, concluding with Robert Schumann’s great Fantasy in C Major, Op. 17. At 2:30pm, Dr. Paul Cienniwa will give a pre-concert lecture.

About the performer…

The New York Times considered Giorgi Chkhikvadze’s performance of Scriabin’s early Sonata-Fantasia as “smart and likeable.” The Wall Street Journal called him a “particularly impressive young pianist.” The South Hampton Press dubbed him “an athletic performer.” He has performed live on Interlochen Public Radio, Georgian National Radio, Georgian National Television, WGBH of Boston, RadioFreeEurope in Prague, and WGN-TV channel 9 in Chicago.

A native of the Republic of Georgia, Giorgi Chkhikvadze was born into a musical household in Tbilisi. He began his piano studies at age seven in the Music School for Gifted Children. At eleven, he had his debut as a soloist with the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Chkhikvadze came to the United States in the summer of 2000 and continued his studies at the Interlochen Arts Academy.

In 2003 he became a First Prize winner in the 15th annual Chopin competition in Indiana. He has performed in numerous music festivals including The Gilmore Keyboard Festival, The Prague Piano Festival, Pianofest in the Hamptons, The Goslar Piano Festival (Germany), The Newport Music Festival, The New Paltz Piano Festival, The Bowdoin Music Festival, and the Georgian festival Chveneburebi. He has collaborated with the New World Symphony Orchestra, and he has performed concertos by Bach, Haydn, Grieg, and Liszt with Georgian Orchestras.

Giorgi Chkhikvadze is currently Professor of Piano at Palm Beach State College. He holds bachelor’s degrees from the Indiana University (South Bend) and Western Michigan University; his master’s degree from DePaul University (Chicago); and his professional performance certificate from Lynn University. His teachers have included Stephen Perry, Lori Sims, Alexander Toradze, Ana Takidze, Lali Gurgenidze, Nana Khubutia, and Roberta Rust.
