Fort Lauderdale Air Show Adds U.S. Air Force A-10 Warthog, C-17 Globemaster III to Performer Lineup

A-10 Warthog

Boca Raton, FL – The 2019 Fort Lauderdale Air Show flown from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport has added the U.S. Air Force A-10 Warthog and a C-17 Globemaster III Demo to the performer lineup.

The show will take place over Fort Lauderdale Beach on May 4-5 and is sponsored by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The A-10 Warthog or Thunderbolt II is best known as the “tank killer” and is famous for its GAU-8/A Avenger, a 30 mm hydraulically driven seven-barrel Gatling-style autocannon that is mounted under the nose. It is legendary in its ability to provide close air support to troops on the ground.

The A-10 is a single-seat, low, straight-wing aircraft with the ability for short takeoffs and landings from primitive airfields. Because of this, the A-10 can operate nearly anywhere and provide ground troops with close air support. The A-10 has seen action in virtually every major U.S. conflict and approximately 350 remain in service.

The C-17 Globemaster III is the newest, most flexible cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force. The C-17 is capable of rapid strategic delivery of troops and all types of cargo to main operating bases or directly to forward bases in the deployment area. It’s rare to see a C-17 demo at an air show.

The Fort Lauderdale Air Show will feature one of the U.S. military’s elite jet demonstration teams – the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. It will be the first time since 2006 that the Blue Angels have performed at the event. The lineup also includes the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Raptor Demo Team.

Other performers recently announced include the United States Special Operations Command Parachute Team (known as the Para-Commandos); a Dash Aerosports L-39 Albatross piloted by Scott Farnsworth; aerobatic pilot Mike Wiskus in his Lucas Oil Pitts; and the world famous GEICO Skytypers Airshow Team.
