   Jeannette Walls

JFS Annual Reflections of Hope Luncheon Scheduled for February 13, 2019

Featuring Keynote Address from Best Selling Author Jeannette Walls, The Glass Castle

Boca Raton, FL — Celebrated author, Jeannette Walls, best known for her best-selling memoir The Glass Castle, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Reflections of Hope Luncheon taking place on February 13th at Boca West Country Club. This compelling program was created in an effort to break the stigma associated with mental illness, a critical issue affecting one in four adults. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit JFS’ Counseling & Mental Health Services, including the Welcome Home Program.

The Glass Castle was named by Amazon as one of the Top-10 books of the decade. Her inspiring story was brought to the big screen in one of the most highly-anticipated major motion pictures of the past year.

“This powerful event provides hope and inspiration and opens the door to a world of possibilities,” said Abbe Becker, who is chairing the luncheon along with Co-Chairs Lori Gottsegen and Lorraine Udwin, and Honorary Co-Chairs Nancy and Marvin Schiller.

“Mental illness can affect us all as it doesn’t have socioeconomic or demographic barriers,” said Gottsegen. “I am thrilled to be a part of this event, as putting an end to the stigma of mental illness is of great importance to me.”

JFS offers psychiatric care, psychological evaluation, counseling, support groups, and the remarkable Welcome Home Program, south Palm Beach County’s only daytime drop-in center for adults with long-term mental illness. The program offers socialization opportunities and the therapists teach life skills, health education, art therapy, pet therapy, self-esteem and anxiety workshops, goal setting, and educational groups.

Added Udwin, “The community has provided overwhelming support of our efforts to raise awareness of mental illness which in turn helps us provide much needed services. We are very excited to host Jeannette Walls and we’re sure to expect a record crowd on February 13th.”
“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of so many,” said Ron Reshefsky, JFS Chair of the Board. “Grand Benefactors Robin & Gary Rubin, and Olivia & Gerald Shapiro are role models
who truly understand the importance of this event and how it helps so many throughout our community.”

Grand Benefactors of “Reflections of Hope” are Robin & Gary Rubin, and Olivia & Gerald Shapiro. Additional sponsors include Meryl & Ron Gallatin, Marissa Hollander, Anne & Norman Jacobson, and Shirley & Barton Weisman, CBIZ MHM, LLC, Century Risk Advisors (JFS Premier Agency Sponsor), Gregory’s Jewelers, Neiman Marcus-Boca Raton, Ticho Foundation, Boca Entertainment, Boca Raton Resort & Club and Boca Raton Observer.
