The theme for last Tuesday’s Hillel dinner was “You Never Forget Your First Time.” Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach is the focal point for Jewish life on the campuses of Florida Atlantic University, Nova Southeastern University, Lynn University, Palm Beach State College, and Broward College. Nearly 8000 students are serviced by Hillel.

The mission of Hillel is to enrich the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world.

Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach offers a pluralistic and inclusive community that offers social and networking events, community service projects, travel experiences to Israel and beyond, Jewish learning opportunities, free Shabbat dinners, a place to celebrate and observe holidays, and mentoring programs that integrate our Hillel with the community.

The 2019 FIDF Palm Beach/Broward Annual Solidarity Gala Dinner was held on Wednesday, February 13th,  at the Polo Club Of Boca Raton.

The event, honoring Barbara and Dr. Jeffrey Feingold, raised funds for educational and social services programs for IDF soldiers.

Featuring Ambassador Danny Danon, Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the guests included Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, CFO Jimmy Patronis and Judge Jeanine Pirro.

However, the most important part of the evening was the number of scholarships contributed for lone soldiers and others who serve and have served as members of the Israel Defense Force.  The evening raised the highest amount, ever, for the South Florida’s Chapter of FIDF … in excess of $1.5 million.

It was a great opportunity to go back in time and hop on the Soul Train at the Unicorn’s Annual Gala! on Saturday, February 16th. Co-chairs Julissa Caballero and Phillip DiPonio created a funky evening of groovy auction items in both the silent and live auction, Motor City soul food, cocktails, and of course the get down Sound of Motown, the music that changed America. The highlight of the evening  was honoring Haley Moss with the Occhigrossi Family Youth in Service Award. Haley is the first openly autistic Florida Attorney.  Proceeds from the night facilitate pathways to help kids and young adults with special needs excel in their communities.

On Friday, March 1st, The Symphonia performs John Williams’ Academy Award-winning score of Star Wars: A New Hope, during a grand showing of the epic film that started it all.

Even if you know the story well or have seen the film several times, there is nothing like seeing this, the first-ever Star Wars film, accompanied by the booming brass and lush strings of a full symphony orchestra. Constantine Kitsopoulos conducts, and the force is sure to be with all in attendance.

 

March 2nd is Sea Turtle Day 9-4

Join us at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center for the annual Sea Turtle Day from. This fun-filled family day of environmental education will be packed with exciting things to see and do, including live animal presentations, face painting, aquarium feedings, children’s theater, guided nature tours, kid’s activities, awesome booths, and more! Great fun for all ages. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Entrance to the festival is free; donations are appreciated. Some activities require an additional fee.

Please park in Spanish River Park, as there will be no on-site parking for the day of the event.
Free parking and complimentary shuttle services are being offered.

 

On Sunday, March 3rd the Museum of Art is celebrating Family Day with FREE MUSEUM ADMISSION

Celebrate our great state on this day dedicated to families. Enjoy the exhibitions on Florida and Museum’s Collection. From live musical performances to making art, there’s plenty to see and do at the Museum.

 

Also on March 3rd JARC is hosing its 33rd Annual Gala Dinner Dance with is themed May the JARC’s Force Be with You.  JARC Florida provides programs and services to educate and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The Gala’s chairs are Elizabeth Levine and Debbie Weisman.  Michael Williams, anchor at WPTV News will act as master of ceremonies for the eighth year alongside emcee and entertainer Sam Simon. This year will also recognize Debra C. Hallow, CEO of JARC FL, for her 25 years of service.

 

 


Start Planning:

 

Boca West Children’s Foundation announced the schedule of events for its “Battle for the Kids Foundation Days.” The Foundation will host its 7th Annual Golf Challenge on April 1 and will present its Concert for the Children featuring a “Battle of the Bands II: The Fab Four and Remember When Rock Was Young” on April 2 at Boca West Country Club.  

 

 The Fab Four brings the greatest Beatles hits. Founded in 1997 by Ron McNeil, The Fab Four received an Emmy Award in 2013 for their PBS special. This stage show includes three costume changes representing every era of the Beatles ever-changing career. This tribute to the Beatles has amazed audiences all over the world, including Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, The United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico and Brazil, performing classics including “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Yesterday,” “A Day In The Life,” “Penny Lane,” “Here Comes The Sun,” and “Hey Jude.”

 

Boca Raton, FL–Tri-County Animal Rescue will hold the 17th Annual Doggie & Kittie Ball to benefit canines & felines on Sunday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Boca West Country Club. The old world “Casino Saloon” themed event will include entertainment by Steve Chase Band, Dawn Marie and Alexandra Lewis. Firefighters will walk the red carpet with rescue dogs and cats. 

 

Gaming tables will open at 6 p.m., followed by dinner, entertainment and a live auction with auctioneer and MC Neil Saffer.

 

The event chair is Sharon DiPietro, with Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg and Sergio DoRosario serving as honorary chairs. Silent auction co-chairs are Susan Merkel and Laurie Udine.  Long time Tri-County supporter, Jeri Caprio, will be the recipient of the Jeanette Christos award. The Grand Marshal Doggie is Figi, owned by Jeff Zapeolan and the Grand Marshal Kittie is Addison, owned Ted Campbell.

 

“Dust off your hat, boots and denim, then glam it up with diamonds and pearls,” said Tri-County Board Chair Sharon DiPietro. “This year’s event promises to be the most fun ever!”

 

Proceeds from the event will enable Tri-County to continue its life-saving work, provide safe haven, nutritious food and veterinary treatment until animals can be adopted.
