The Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton ‘Service Above Self’ grant program that was funded by the proceeds from the Club’s inaugural 2015 Boca Raton Mayors Ball has gifted $56,000 to 25 local nonprofits and Rotary International “Polio Plus”. According to Founding Co-chair of the Mayors Ball and Club President Jon A. Kaye, the recipients were selected for grant fulfillment to help fund specific health and wellness programs and services needs.
In addition to the 25 nonprofit grants, the Club has also made a $5,000 donation to the Boca Raton Historical Society recognizing it as a community partner for the Mayors Ball and a donation of $8,300
to Rotary International to help eradicate polio on national and global fronts. For championing the tradition of bringing indelible visionary ideas and transformation to Boca Raton, the inaugural Boca Raton Mayors Ball honored Barb Schmidt, as an individual, Boca Raton Bowl as a for-profit and American Association of Caregiving Youth as a nonprofit. Each were presented the “George E. Long Award” named for the City’s first appointed mayor in 1924 designed and donated by Tiffany & Co. of Town Center at Boca Raton.
Based on grant criteria, submitted grant applications and monies requested by nonprofits for earmarked health and wellness needs, $5,000 was presented to each of the following:
- American Disabilities Foundation Boating & Beach Bash: underwrite the annual event’s
Kids Fun Zone

- Florence Fuller Child Development Centers: to support services via nonprofit’s health and education program for undeserved children and families that provides health interventions and support not otherwise accessible for more than 700 children, age six weeks to 12 years

- PROPEL: vision screening exams and each registered student in PROPEL and eyeglasses as needed

- The Volen Center: to help fund a matching grant by Department of Transportation for the purchase of a new van to transport seniors and disabled clients to medical appointments, grocery shopping and other destinations with funds matched.
