DELRAY BEACH – Police have charged a 38-year-old man in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man earlier this week.

Jean Wesner Desty was booked into the Palm Beach County jail early Wednesday on a charge of murder while engaged in a certain felony offense.

Police have not released the name of the victim, however witnesses identified him as Herman Denis.

The shooting occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of Southwest 9th Street. Witnesses told police that the man was seated in the passenger seat of a silver Cadillac Escalade when the shooter got out of another vehicle and fired a shot through the window.

“The driver of the Escalade drove the injured man to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later,” according to a release from the Delray Beach police.

Detectives think Desty and the victim may have had previous issues with each other and may possibly have been in a fight before the shooting.

After hearing from witnesses that a red Toyota Camry was seen at the shooting scene, officers headed to a home where they thought the Toyota may have been.

“While officers were at the house, the red Toyota arrived with a woman and a man inside,” according to the release. “The man had blood on him. Detectives have detained the two.” A crime scene cleanup must be done so a crime scene cleaning team was contacted after the police collected essential pieces of evidence.

Tuesday’s homicide was the third this year in the city and the 17th in County for 2016.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Detective Stephanie Kearney at 561-243-7800 or report anonymous information to Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-TIPS (8477), online at www.crimestopperspbc.com or by texting tips@cspbc.com.
