Punxsutawney Phil forecast six more weeks of winter on Monday afternoon so it was only fitting Lynn University’s men’s golf team cooled off the competition after the first two rounds of the Titan Winter Invitational.  The Fighting Knights are first out of 15 teams while newcomer Mateo Gomez sits in a tie for first place individually with a one-under par 143 total.

Four teams battled for a tie of first place, with the Blue & White included, after posting team scores of 305.  Despite bad weather coming in over the final 18 holes, Lynn (600) was able to post a 295 second round, two shots better than Webber (602) and four strokes ahead of Northwood (604).

The recently arrived Gomez shot a one-under par 71 to start the day on the par 72 Suntree Country Club course.  He would follow with an even par 72 and is tied with Brad Grey of host Eastern Florida State College for the lead.

Miguel Solorzano qualified for the tournament as an individual for Lynn and did not disappoint.  The junior from Medellin, Colombia, is third with a 145 after shooting scores of 72-73.

All of the Fighting Knights rebounded from a difficult opening 18 holes.  Keith Greene made a three shot improvement with a two-round score of 151; Martin Cancino and Elliott Whitley logged four stroke improvements for scores of 152 and 154 and Jose Miranda had the biggest turnaround of five shots to post a 157.
