Florida Atlantic University’s Caring Hearts Auxiliary of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center will host the ninth annual “Keep Memories Alive — Exercise Your Mind” walk affair on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. at the Town Center at Boca Raton, 6000 Glades Road, Boca Raton.

Funds raised at the walk support the Center’s state-of-the art, evidence-based programs and services that are vital to patients and families living with memory disorders.

“We are deeply appreciative of the Caring Hearts Auxiliary and know that every dollar raised is making an impact,” said María Ordóñez, D.N.P., A.R.N.P.-B.C., director of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center.

Seymour Flaster has witnessed firsthand the positive effects the Center’s programs have had on his wife of 59 years, Anita. The Center has given Anita the ability to socialize and has reignited her love of art.

“Every piece of artwork she creates is better than the last,” said Flaster. “When she is happy, I am happy.”

The Flasters will serve as the honorary family of this year’s walk.

“The Flasters represent what the Keep Memories Alive Walk is all about,” said Terry Fedele, president of the Caring Hearts Auxiliary Board, and co-chair of the walk with Board member Morgan Green. “The Memory and Wellness Center provides an active and secure place for Sy to bring Anita, and the caregiver support programs have a positive impact on their home life.”

The Memory and Wellness Center is located on FAU’s Boca Raton campus and is part of Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. The Center averages 10,000 visits per year and offers a wide range of services and programs to individuals with mild to moderate memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia.

This year, event participants are encouraged to walk in teams or as individuals. Walkers will “Exercise Their Minds” with various games, exercises and entertainment located throughout the mall. The Auxiliary is grateful for the unending generosity of Honorary Chair, Elaine J. Wold and returning Presenting Sponsor, Bobby Campbell.

Walkers who raise and submit a minimum of $30 before the event or $40 on the day of the event will receive the Keep Memories Alive Walk T-shirt while supplies last.  For more information or to register, contact 561-297-4066 or nurchearts@fau.edu, or visit nursing.fau.edu/keepmemoriesalive.
