Game of the Week: Park Vista edges Boca Raton in District matchup

By: Jihad Shatara

After a 0-3 start, Park Vista has had an incredible run of five straight wins, improving to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the district. The Cobras, led by Corey Cola on offense, are arguably the hottest team in District 10-8A.

Boca, who needed a win to stay in playoff contention, intercepted a pass thrown by Park Vista Quarterback Brandon Sharpe deep in Cobra territory. The Bobcats would eventually score a touchdown on a four-yard Marlon Fleming touchdown run.

On the next Cobra possession, Park Vista would answer with a 27 yard field goal by kicker Chris Hamblet. The score stayed at 6-3 until the freshman sensation Corey Cola would have a 25 yard touchdown run, the first of his 3 for the night. Cola had another impressive night with 25 carries for 117 yards. The game got a little heated in the 3rd quarter when three Park Vista players were ejected. Penalties would kill the Bobcats all night. A block in the back prevented an 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Another 15 yard roughing the passer would negate a Boca interception in Cobra territory.

Despite having over 100 yards of penalties before the 4th quarter, Boca would reduce the Park Vista lead to just a touchdown when Quarterback Phillip Santiago hit Wide receiver Michael Blanc on an eight-yard touchdown. Park Vista would eventually block all momentum on just three crucial plays in the 4th quarter. Phillip Santiago would throw an interception deep into Cobra territory which lead to a missed field goal by Chris Hamblet. Boca was still in it, but then Nick Casidei would block a punt. Park Vista then ended all Boca playoff hopes with a one-yard touchdown run. The final score would be 27-13.

Park Vista has now clinched a playoff spot and can win the district title outright next Thursday against Palm Beach Central. This will be Park Vista’s 4th straight year in the playoffs. Meanwhile, for Boca Raton, they are eliminated from the playoffs.
