Boca man, 21, Faces Multiple Charges in Crimes

By Jason Schwartz

A 21-year-old Boca Raton man was arrested and faces a string of charges in a series of crimes, police said.

Daniel Esteban Pinedo-Velapatino, 21, was arrested Tuesday after police said he fled two crashes, then tried to swim away from police.

Police charged Pinedo-Velapatino, of the 18000 block of Cloud Lake Circle, west of Boca Raton, with burglary, three counts of drug possession, two counts of assault on an officer, larceny — between $20,000 and $100,000, hit and run from an accident involving an injury, fleeing an officer, motor vehicle violations, motor vehicle theft and more.

The arrest stems for a report that Pinedo-Velapatino allegedly stole more than $8,000 from a friend who was passed out at a local hotel after they had been doing drugs at a party, according to one of his arrest report.

Boca police had an earlier encounter with Pinedo-Velapatino earlier this month when they arrested him for using his friend’s car without permission. He was charged then with grand theft of a motor vehicle.
