Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is Investigating a Deputy Involved Shooting

On Saturday, May 3, 2014, at approximately 1:30 am, deputies responded to the area of 6th Avenue South & Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, in reference to attempted armed robbery where shots were fired.

When deputies arrived they were given a description of the suspect; dark clothing, armed with a gun, last seen running west bound on 6th Avenue South, Lake Worth.  A deputy patrolling in the area of Avenue D and 6th Avenue South encountered the suspect.  A foot chase ensued into an alley just west of Avenue D.  The armed suspect turned towards the deputy, pointed the gun at the deputy, and the deputy in fear of his life discharged his service weapon striking the suspect.

The suspect, an adult male, was air lifted to Delray Medical condition where he is listed in critical condition, non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects hand gun, with serial numbers scratched off, was recovered at the scene and taken into evidence.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave which is standard department protocol.
