Temple Beth El Celebrates Chanukah with the Entire Community: Promises Music, Dance, Storytelling, Delicious Food

By Wendy Schauben

Temple Beth El of Boca Raton will celebrate The 8thGreat Night of Chanukah on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.

The event will take place at the Boca Center where attendees will light the Chanukah candles together as a community. Festive music will be provided by Cantorial Soloists Lori Shapiro and Lawrence Dermer along with the Temple Beth El children and youth choirs, Shir Joy and Shir Ruach. The event is free and open to the public and attendees will enjoy a night of sampling of latkes and cookies presented by Joseph’s Classic Market, children’s goodie bags complete with gelt compliments of Hoffman’s Chocolates, a children’s craft station, out of this world sampling from Planet Smoothie and Tasti-D-Lite,  and of course singing, dancing and story-telling.

Guests can also put a little gelt back into their pockets with dining discounts from Boca Center’s finest restaurants by mentioning they attended the Temple Beth El 8th Great Night of Chanukah. Deals include free guacamole with purchase of two dinners at Rocco’s Tacos, 15% off at BRIO Tuscan Grille, and 10% off at The English Tap.

Temple Beth El will also be celebrating Chanukah Shabbat at their Boca Raton main campus on Friday, Nov. 29 with Chanukah in Two Acts. The first service, “Cloudy with a Chance of Menorahs,” will include a telling of the story of Chanukah with a twist – complete with music, meaning and fun and starting at 6 p.m. The second service, “Chanukah: The Musical” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Temple Beth El’s Shir Shalom, Shir Joy and Shir Ruach will take the Bima to perform the original Broadway style revue of the Story of the Maccabees.  Bring your own menorah and light candles together.  Potato latkes and sufganiot, or jelly donuts, will be served at an Oneg Shabbat succeeding each service.

“We are delighted to invite the entire community to celebrate Chanukah together this year,” said Steve Kaufman Executive Director at Temple Beth El.  “The 8th Great Night and Chanukah in Two Acts events are going to be both entertaining and educational.”

Temple Beth El encourages the local South Florida Jewish community to join in on the Chanukah festivities with their family and friends; whether it’s lighting the candles, playing a game of dreidel or listening to the story of the Maccabees, Chanukah is best celebrated together.
