Stonebridge Golf and Country Club Wins Boca Cup Golf Tournament for Second Time

Stonebridge Golf and Country Club edged Broken Sound Country Club by one shot to win the 2013 Boca Cup Golf Championship played on Broken Sound’s Old Course in Boca Raton on October 3.

Inaugurated five years ago, The Boca Cup is an annual one-day competition among ten of the most prestigious country clubs in the Boca Raton area.

The tournament included five teams from each club in best-ball format. Each team consisted of five two-man pairings, one pair formed by the club’s professional and low amateur, two pairs with handicap indexes up to 15.0 and two pairs with 15.1 – 22.0 indexes. Scores were handicapped to 90% of index and the aggregate of the three lowest scores among the five were used in the scoring.

The inaugural tournament in 2009 was also won by Stonebridge. Woodfield Country Club has won the cup twice and Addison Reserve once.

The Boca Cup trophy now stands prominently displayed in Stonebridge Country Club’s recently renovated clubhouse lobby located in West Boca on Route 441, just north of Clint Moore Road, where it will remain unless another club can unseat the Stonebridge champions next year.

Competing with Stonebridge were Addison Reserve Country Club, Boca Grove Country Club, Boca Raton Resort & Club, Boca West Country Club, Broken Sound Country Club, The Polo Club, Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club, St. Andrews Country Club and Woodfield Country Club.

Led by Golf Professional, Tom Cleaver, Stonebridge champions Ron Bosco, Tony Codner, Brian Gilbertson, Alan Goldner, Don Gould, Michael Greenberg, Larry Howard, Herb Kanter and Jay Sosonko posed for a celebratory photo after their victory.

All commented on the friendliness and competitiveness of the other clubs’ teams, thanked the host club, Broken Sound, and said they are looking forward to defending their title next year.
