Boca Woman Charged in hit, run Crash

By Jason Schwartz

A West Boca woman was arrested and charged after she allegedly struck three cars in Boynton Beach then left the scene, according to an arrest report.

Brooke Mahoney, 33, of Carousel Circle, was charged with three counts of hit-and-run, as well as reckless driving.

Officers were called to the crash scene in the 300 block of SW 10th Avenue where they found several people pointing to a white car that was disabled in the road. The Toyota Solara had a flat tire, bent rim frame and smashed front end.

Mahoney, who was in the driver’s seat, told a Boynton Beach police officer that she was just “hanging out” and she didn’t know anything about the parked cars that had just been hit down the road. The paint from all three – red, gold and blue – had transferred to Mahoney’s white car.

She also told the officer that the damage to her car was old.

But the officer didn’t buy it.

She could not give a reason why her car was disabled in the roadway, according to the report. The officer also said it appeared Mahoney wasn’t aware she was in Boynton Beach. She seemed to believe she was in Boca Raton.

“When I asked Brooke where she was, she advised that she was currently “at a friend’s house” in Boca Raton,” the officer wrote in his report. “Brooke could not provide me with any persons in the City of Boynton Beach, where we were, that she knew or a logical reason for her vehicle to be disabled in the roadway.”

Mahoney has been charged with traffic violations three times since 1999, according to her driving record. Adjudication was withheld each time, records show. Two of the violations were speed-related, while the third was for having an open alcoholic beverage.

She was released after spending 12 hours in the Palm Beach County Jail.
