Boca Raton man arrested after falsely claiming car was stolen

Boca Raton, FL – Detectives from the Boca Raton Police Services Department arrested the owner of a car reported stolen in mid-June.  The owner, Bradley Bernasek, called Boca Raton Police on June 14th saying his 1998 Black Ford Mustang was stolen from the Publix parking lot at 21230 St. Andrews Blvd between approximately 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm.  A few hours later, Boca Raton Police were notified that BSO Fire-Rescue found the vehicle on fire in Fort Lauderdale.

During the investigation Bernasek not only filed a stolen vehicle report, but also signed a Stolen Vehicle Affidavit indicating that he did not know who stole his car.  The investigation revealed that Bernasek met someone, later identified at Richard Adderley, to dispose of his car so he could collect money from his insurance company.  Boca Raton investigators also found that phone records show Bernasek was in contact with Adderley during the time frame.  Adderley admitted that he met with Bernasek at the Publix to retrieve the keys to the car to dispose of it.

Bernasek was charged with filing a False and Fraudulent Insurance Claim and with Filing a False Report of a Crime.
