Boca Raton Regional Hospital Listed by U.S. News as a Top Ranking Hospital in Florida for Third Year in a Row

BOCA RATON, FL – Boca Raton Regional Hospital today announced that it has been cited as a top-ranked regional hospital in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013-2014 annual listing of America’s Best Hospitals. Boca Regional is ranked 21st in Florida and 9th in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area. U.S. News also rated Boca Regional a high-performing hospital in Gastroenterology/Gastrointestinal Surgery and Gynecology.

“We are honored to once again receive this recognition from U.S. News,” said Jerry Fedele, President and CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “Not only was the Hospital listed for the third consecutive year, but we have gone up in the rankings and were recognized as high-performing in two specialties. It is truly gratifying to be acknowledged in such a prestigious fashion for the care we provide.”

The 24th annual edition of Best Hospitals showcases less than 750 of the nation’s roughly 5,000 hospitals. Fewer than 150 are nationally ranked in at least one of 16 medical specialties. The rest of the recognized hospitals met a standard of performance nearly as demanding in one or more specialties.

“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best. Just three percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty.”

The regional hospital rankings complement the U.S. News national rankings by including hospitals with solid performance nearly at the level of nationally ranked institutions. The regional rankings are aimed primarily at consumers who may not be willing or able to travel long distances for medical care. The rankings also give patients and their families more options of hospitals within their community and health insurance network.

The rankings are derived out of an analysis of objective data including: death rates, patient safety and procedure volume.

The rankings were published by U.S. News in collaboration with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Highlights of the 2012-13 rankings will appear in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, to go on sale in August.
