New Chapter as Library Prepares to Open Downtown

Boca Raton, Fl – More than 100 people formed a line and passed books from Boca Raton’s old library to the new main library this week.

The symbolic gesture featured mostly children from summer programs across the city.

An official ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday to mark the opening of the city’s flagship Downtown Library.

The spacious new main library, on the corner of NW Boca Raton Boulevard and  NW 4th Street, is twice as large as the current library, will have 70 public access computers with high-speed Wi-Fi services, and 10 private study and tutoring rooms.

The building is directly north of the old library at 200 NW Boca Raton Blvd.

Plans for a new library have been in the works since 2003, when Boca Raton residents approved a $19.8 million dollar bond to go towards two new libraries.
