FAU Honors 2013 Hall of Fame Inductee and Distinguished Alumni of the Colleges

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association (FAUAA) recently hosted a reception to honor distinguished FAU alumni. More than 200 guests attended the event, which took place at the Recreation and Fitness Center on FAU’s Boca Raton campus. Alumni from eight of FAU’s colleges were honored for their career accomplishments, and Gene G. Kinney, M.A. ’92, Ph.D. ’94, was introduced as the 2013 inductee into the Alumni Hall of Fame. Since 1985, the Hall of Fame has served as a platform for recognizing alumni excellence.

Kinney is a recognized leader in the field of neuroscience drug discovery and Alzheimer’s disease research and therapeutics. He serves as chief scientific officer and head of research & development at Prothena Biosciences in San Francisco. He has been involved with the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for neurological and neuropsychiatric indications and has contributed to a national strategy addressing the increasing burden of Alzheimer’s disease through invited participation in Leaders Engaged in Alzheimer’s Disease (LEAD) teams.

“I graduated from FAU with more than a degree. I graduated with friends, colleagues, and mentors, as well as a comprehensive education from an institution that has supported me throughout my career,” said Kinney. “I value my time at FAU and enthusiastically encourage current and future students to embrace the opportunities this ever growing and improving university continues to offer.”
