Dr. Marc Taub won the most votes awarding him the 2013 Doctor of Distinction out of more than 70 doctors that were nominated for the Award at the 15th Annual Honor Your Doctor luncheon held at Broken Sound Club on Wednesday, March 20th.
“This was the most successful “Honor Your Doctor” luncheon in its 15 years,” said Event Chair Janice Williams. “By partnering the GFWC; Boca Raton Woman’s Club and Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton, we were able to raise the bar to produce a superior event and raise more funds.”
Each Honor Your Doctor nominee was presented with an engraved plaque. In addition to the engraved plaque,
Dr. Marc Taub also received an engraved brass clock and a proclamation from City of Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel that states March 20,2013 as Dr. Marc Taub Day. This was the
second time that Dr. Taub has been recognized as a “Doctor of Distinction;” he previously received the award in 2003.
This year’s Honor Your Doctor luncheon was chaired by Janice Williams, a longstanding member of GFWC; Boca Raton Woman’s Club and Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton with co-chairs Joan Weidenfeld (GFWC) and Ingrid Fulmer (Rotary). Honorary Chairs were Holli Rockwell, Jerry and Terry Fedele and the Honorary Physician Advisor was Dr. Nicolas R. Breuer. The fundraiser was the brainchild of Helen M. Babione, who is still an active member of the GFWC and passionate about raising funds to support the medical community in Boca Raton.
Invitations were mailed and the public was invited to nominate their favorite doctor by completing a nomination form online at the www.rotarydowntownbocaraton.org website and paying $40 per nomination (or $100 for 3 nominations). All nominated doctors were invited to attend the Champagne reception and luncheon as a guest. More than 220 guests, including 40 doctors out of 70+ nominees, attended the event. The fundraiser netted $26,000 for the Helen M. Babione Medical Scholarship Fund and will benefit medical and nursing school students attending four local universities: Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at FAU, Christine Lynn Nursing School at FAU, Lynn University and Palm Beach State College.
About the GFWC; Boca Raton Woman’s Club;
The General Federation of Woman’s Club was founded in 1890 and the Boca Raton Woman’s Club was founded in 1964. The club has a long history of providing scholarships to local students as well as many other services to the community. In 1967, the club held a fundraiser to underwrite the First Annual Nursing Scholarship. In 2008, the scholarship was named in recognition of Helen Babione’s tireless efforts in establishing the Honor Your Doctor Luncheon in 1998 and her ongoing support for students in the medical field. The luncheon recognizes local outstanding physicians for their dedication and commitment to patients in our community with a “Doctor of Distinction” named annually. The luncheon is held in conjunction with National Doctors’ Day which is March 30.The proceeds of the luncheon provide scholarships for students in the medical field at FAU Charles E. Schmidt
College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University School of Nursing, Lynn University, and Palm Beach State College through the Helen M. Babione Medical Scholarship.
