Tactical Team arrests two burglars

On Tuesday, February 26, at 12:30 p.m., members of the Boca Raton Police Department’s Tactical Team were patrolling a residential neighborhood near 500 SW 9th Avenue, when they saw a blue Lincoln backed into a driveway. There was a black male sitting in the driver’s seat and another black male walking away from the vehicle through a gate that leads to the back of the house. A brief moment later, the officer saw the same male run from the

back of the house and get into the passenger side of the Lincoln. The vehicle headed towards Camino Real with officers following.

Officers witnessed several traffic violations and stopped the car. When officers made contact with the driver, Kelsie Smith, and passenger, Braylin Buncum, they immediately smelled the odor of marijuana wafting out from the car’s interior. Officers searched Buncum and found a large screwdriver in his pants pocket. When officers searched the car, they found a backpack belonging to Smith which contained a driver’s license and credit card belonging to a 94 year old man. They also found a small bag of marijuana in the gas cap area, as well as loose marijuana scattered on the floorboards.

When officers questioned Smith and Buncum, they gave conflicting stories about why they were in Boca Raton and what they were doing. Smith also gave conflicting stories about how he came to be in possession of the other driver’s license and credit card.

Officers arrested Smith and Buncum and charged both with attempted burglary to a dwelling, loitering and prowling, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. Smith was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and unauthorized possession of a credit card. Buncum was also charged with possession of burglary tools.
