Early Morning Fire Damages Sushi Restaurant

An early morning fire Dec. 18 caused an estimated $150,000 damage to a sushi restaurant, said Assistant Fire Chief Michael Gergora.

At approximately 4:37 a.m., a passerby noticed smoke coming from the Yokohama Sushi Restaurant at 60 North Federal Highway and called 911 to notify firefighters.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services responded and confirmed here was a fire inside the building.  Firefighters had to force entry to the restaurant.  The building was filled with smoke, and flames were coming from the kitchen area.  The business was closed and there were no occupants inside the structure at that time.

Gergora said the fire was immediately extinguished and firefighters worked quickly to prevent further damage from the fire and smoke to adjacent businesses in the strip shopping center.

He said no injuries were reported.  The fire remains under investigation.
