Boca Festival Days’ KidSafe Seminar attracts more than 60

BOCA RATON — More than 60 people, including NCCI employees and Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce members, were in attendance at the recent KidSafe Seminar. The event, held at NCCI, kicked off the Chamber’s Boca Festival Days.

Sally Berenzweig, MEd, MA, KidSafe cofounder and keynote speaker, gave a 45-minute presentation that covered topics including sexual abuse prevention, Internet safety, bullying, warning signs, statistics, and preventative tactics.

“Boca Festival Days is a great way for non-profits and for-profits to get together to educate our community while also raising funds,” said Cheryl Budd, NCCI’s chief communications officer and Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce board chair.  “NCCI was thrilled that we were able to partner with KidSafe.  It’s a good feeling knowing that a few more parents and children in our community are safer due to our partnership.”

The seminar was held in one of NCCI’s state-of-the-art conference rooms, allowing Berenzweig to integrate a range of visual communication methods that reinforced the powerful messages she delivered. This included Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and videos that played on flat screens throughout the room.

Berenzweig said that her purpose for speaking at NCCI was “to raise awareness of the epidemic of child abuse and to give concrete skills on how to keep kids safe, because 95 percent of child abuse is preventable with education.”

NCCI Executive Administrative Assistant Annabel Cohen commented, “I thought I knew how to protect my kids—I was surprised.  The statistics on bullying and abuse are alarming; I will now take new and different steps to protect my children, and I now know the warning signs of trouble, thanks to KidSafe.”
