Two colleges at Lynn University to merge this fall

BOCA RATON — This fall, Lynn University is revamping its academics by merging the College of Hospitality and Management with the College of Business and Management.

The newly expanded College of Business and Management will be overseen by current business dean, Thomas Kruczek. Longtime business professor Ralph Norcio will serve as senior associate dean.

“I’m excited about combining the schools,” said Kruczek. “Historically there has always been overlap between the colleges because sound business practices are at the heart of the hospitality industry.”

According to Vice President of Academic Affairs Gregg Cox, the merger has been under consideration for some time.

“It will give both our business and hospitality students the flexibility to tailor their programs to their interests because of our expanded course offerings,” said Kruczek.

New programs housed within the College of Business will include the Internship and Cooperative Education Program led by Rick Sayers. New business majors will include entrepreneurship, event management and sports management, among others. Sports management, a major previously offered to hospitality students, is renowned for sending students to national sporting events including the X-Games, the Final Four and the Olympics to capture a behind the scenes experience.

“People usually think of business majors as potential entrepreneurs, but a surprising number of hospitality majors will also become entrepreneurs,” said Kruczek. “It’s going to be a big plus for our hospitality students. They will graduate with a business degree, which will give them more versatility in the workplace.”
