Sugar Sand Park Invites Filmmakers to Submit Entries for Debut of Shriek Week Film Festival

BOCA RATON–Sugar Sand Park Community Center has announced the First Annual Shriek Week Film Festival for young filmmakers ages 6-17. Shriek Week is the Community Center’s annual Halloween event, taking place from October 24-27. This year, the event will include several new features, including the Film Festival.

Young filmmakers are invited to submit a short, scary film of any type – film, stop motion, animated and/or music video – to the Community Center. A panel will select up to 28 films to premiere in the Willow Theatre during Shriek Week and prizes will be awarded to winning films.

Leading up to the Sept. 15 entry deadline, the Community Center is partnering with Director’s Cut to offer one day workshops to help exp. Each focuses on one theme: Reel Film, Stop Motion or Claymation.  Workshops cost $75 per participant daily and are for young directors who already have some post-production experience.

Briann Harms, Recreation Center Supervisor III atSugarSandPark, said several hundred children have already taken one of the many workshops and week long camps offered by Director’s Cut at the Community Center over the last few years. “The kids who are involved in the filmmaking classes here do some really amazing short films; we wanted to incorporate some of this local talent into our most popular special event, Shriek Week, so that these filmmakers get a chance to showcase their films to a much wider audience.”

Harms says films should be scary, suspenseful, about Halloween, or a combination, but suitable for all ages. For the entry forms and full rules, visit www.SugarSandPark.org/shriek-week.
