Orange Bowl to Donate More Than $16,000 to Youth Lacrosse in South Florida

Miami Lakes, FL- The Orange Bowl will donate proceeds totaling $16,286 from its first annual Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic to youth lacrosse programs in South Florida. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the South Florida Chapter of US Lacrosse Inc. which will partner with the Orange Bowl to host youth instructional clinics, such as the Orange Bowl Major League Lacrosse Clinic that was held on Friday, June 29th, 2012. The Orange Bowl and the South Florida Chapter of US Lacrosse Inc. will also host additional clinics to be announced in the upcoming months.

“The Orange Bowl’s commitment to youth sports in South Florida is an integral part of the Committee’s mission and vision,” O. Ford Gibson, Orange Bowl president and Chair said. “The Orange Bowl is extremely excited to continue to build and develop its commitment to youth Lacrosse in South Florida, like we have with our Youth Football Alliance.”

In addition to its contributions made to the South Florida Chapter of US Lacrosse Inc., proceeds from the first annual Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic benefited youth lacrosse programs at local parks across South Florida that participated in the Lacrosse Classic this past year. The first annual Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic featured three high school games, a number of youth league games and youth lacrosse clinics led by lacrosse legend Casey Powell.

The first Orange Bowl Lacrosse Classic builds on the Orange Bowl Committee’s tradition of supporting youth and collegiate sports in South Florida. For 13 years, the Orange Bowl has supported the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance presented by Sports Authority, which serves more than 16,000 young football players and cheerleaders in nine youth football leagues spread out across South Florida, from Lake Okeechobee to Key West. Since 1999, the Orange Bowl has invested approximately $5 million in youth sports in South Florida.

In addition to its continued support of youth football, the Orange Bowl directly supports locally-based festivals and events, including those that provide participatory opportunities to youth from all over the world, such as the Orange Bowl Sailing Regatta Series, the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships, the Orange Bowl Swim Classic, the Orange Bowl Paddle Championships and Junior Orange Bowl.

For 78 years, the Orange Bowl has been one of South Florida’s leading civic organizations, driving tourism and economic development, while promoting and serving the South Florida community. Inspiring thousands of student athletes every year, the Orange Bowl’s activities help foster youth confidence, celebrates student achievement, engage the community and enhance the South Florida economy.
