WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (July 9, 2012) – Clerk & Comptroller Sharon Bock was recently appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to the Florida Courts Technology Commission (FCTC), a statewide organization that creates policy for and oversees technological applications in Florida’s courts.
Bock will serve a three-year term as the representative of Florida’s 67 Clerks on the FCTC. The FCTC is a 24-member group charged with making recommendations to the Florida Supreme Court for technology policies and projects, evaluating applications and creating operating procedures for the state’s circuit and appellate courts. In addition to clerks, members include circuit and appellate court judges, attorneys, court administrators and the general public.
“It is an honor to be appointed to the FCTC. This commission has created a partnership between the clerks, courts and others that puts the best interests of our citizens first,” Clerk Bock said. “I will work as hard as I have in Palm Beach County to pave the way for technology that makes the justice system more open and transparent for Floridians.”
In February, the Clerk’s office successfully launched its new criminal courts case management system, and hopes to launch a new case management system in civil courts next year. Clerk Bock has advocated electronic filing of court documents, serving as a member of the Florida Courts E-Filing Authority, the rulemaking body for the statewide electronic filing portal. Clerk Bock has also provided a smartphone app and texting services for the convenience of customers who do business with the office.
Clerk Bock also is an elected member of the Clerk of Courts Operations Corporation (CCOC), the statewide policymaking body for Florida’s Clerks.
She is currently serving her second four-year term as Clerk & Comptroller of Palm Beach County, the third-largest clerk’s office in Florida. She was first elected to the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court in November 2004.
The Florida Constitution established the independent office of the Clerk & Comptroller as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. Clerk Sharon Bock is directly elected by and accountable to Palm Beach County residents. In addition to the roles of Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Recorder and Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk & Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Auditor for Palm Beach County.
