Tony Awards Celebrated at Costume World Broadway Collection Museum

 By: Barbara McCormick

Broadway’s brightest night was celebrated locally in northwest Pompano Beach at the newly established Costume World Broadway Collection Museum, home of the largest number of musical theatre costumes in America. The affair was co-hosted by Madelyn Savarick and Marilynn Wick.
One hundred guests got the red carpet treatment with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres served in the museum gallery.

Tony award ballots and monogrammed gold stars decorated the tables, with miniature Tony awards presented to the winners whose star’s names matched the 2012 winners. Dame Edna, portrayed by Michael Walters, presented each award.

Highlights of the guided tour, led by curator Kimberly Wick, included a restored original gown designed by Sir Cecil Beaton and worn by Julie Andrews in the 1956 production of “My Fair Lady”; a life-sized portrait of Mae West with her original mink coat and a collection of classic suits designed by Co-Co Chanel.
