Boca Raton, FL – A suspect wanted for robbing a woman at gunpoint in Boca Raton was arrested by Boca Raton and Delray Beach police Tuesday. The first crime took place in Boca Raton on May 2nd. Shortly after 2:00 pm the victim said she was placing her shopping bags in her car trunk at the Kmart on Palmetto Park Road when a man with a gun ran up to her and physically removed her purse from her arm. The suspect took off to the rear of the building. A check of surveillance video from inside Kmart showed the suspect who matched the victim’s description.
A short time later, the victim’s credit card was used at the Exxon/Mobil Gas station at 8100 West Glades Road, and moments later another woman was robbed at gunpoint of her purse in the same plaza. Again, a check of surveillance video showed the same suspect as seen on the video in the Kmart.
After releasing images of the suspect vehicle to the media, the owner came forward saying it was her car that was stolen from a gas station in Delray Beach a couple of days earlier. The recovered car was processed for evidence, and items belonging to two victims were found inside.
On June 1st an automobile burglary was reported at the same Kmart Plaza on Palmetto Park Road. A check of surveillance video showed the suspected getaway car. A bolo was issued for that car and a short time later Delray Beach Police located it. Surveillance was set up by both Boca Raton Police and Delray Beach Police, and when the suspect was seen driving the vehicle, Delray Beach Police tried pulling the fleeing vehicle before the driver bailed out of the car and was apprehended by Delray Beach Police.
The suspect, Derrick Ivery, was identified by all of the victims. Ivery was charged by the Boca Raton Police Services Department with Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Grand Theft, Burglary to an Auto and Identity Theft. Ivery also faces charges from other departments.
