BOCA RATON — Boca Raton Regional Hospital shows its commitment to the heart health of Palm Beach County residents not just at the hospital, but also out in the local community.
For the third consecutive year, the hospital will be serving as the local presenting sponsor of the American Heart Association’s annual “Heart Walk of the Palm Beaches” scheduled Saturday, September 29 at the Meyer Amphitheatre in downtown West Palm Beach.
Not only is Boca Raton Regional Hospital the leading local corporate sponsor, but, also, more than 700 participants join the hospital’s fundraising team each year and the team has raised a combined total of $73,443 over the past two years.
Historically, Boca Raton Regional Hospital has been a loyal supporter of the American Heart Association, particularly with the expanding reputation of the Christine E. Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute and renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. James Morris, Medical Director of the Institute.
Jerry Fedele, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boca Raton Regional Hospital, sees the natural alignment between the hospital and the American Heart Association. “The American Heart Association and Boca Regional share a common bond in their commitment to the fight against heart disease and stroke,” said Fedele. “Events like the Heart Walk demonstrate this partnership and our mutual goal to save lives through education, research and the finest in clinical care.”
As the signature community-wide event of the American Heart Association, the Heart Walk draws some 15,000 participants, including representatives of top corporate sponsors and corporate walk teams, community walk teams, individual walkers and survivors and families affected by heart disease and stroke.
The family-friendly event includes a 5K (3.1 mile) walk route, kids zone featuring bounce houses for kids and other activities, health screenings, entertainment, warm-up routine, and healthy snacks. Val Perez, Regional Vice President, Palm Beach County, TD Bank, is the 2012 Heart Walk Chairman.
Activities at the event will get underway at 7:00 a.m. with a 5K USATF Run hosted by Lawyers Have Heart. Onsite activities will begin at the same time and the Heart Walk will kickoff at 9a.m. along Flagler Drive overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.
