Memorial Day Events in Boca,West Boca

BOCA RATON– Memorial Day – the holiday that signals the unofficial start of summer – is more importantly a day to remember those who died to protect our freedoms.

Boca RatonandWest Boca Ratonare among the communities planning special events for the holiday on which most municipal, state and federal offices are closed.

In Boca, the holiday weekend begins early with a free performance by the Boca Ballet Theater Sunday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.  Come enjoy an evening of mixed repertory dance under the stars. Blankets and chairs permitted, chairs also available for rent. Food and beverage vendors on site, so please no coolers, pets or outside alcoholic beverages. The event will be held rain or shine.

Boca Ratonhas two Memorial Day-related activities planned Monday. The annual Commemorative Ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at the Boca RatonCemetery, 449 SW 4th Ave.  It will feature veterans groups, city officials, music by the Fort Lauderdale Highlanders,Boca RatonCommunityHighsSchool band and the Coastmen Chorus.  There will be drills by Boca Raton Community High School NJROTC and the New Young Patriots.

In the evening, a free Memorial Day Concert sponsored by the city of Boca Ratonwill be held at 7 at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.  It features the Indian River Pops Orchestra and the Robert Sharon Chorale. Blankets and chairs permitted, chairs also available for rent. Food and beverage vendors on site, so please no coolers, pets or outside alcoholic beverages. The event is rain or shine.

In West Boca Raton, the Veterans Coalition of South Florida will present its annual Memorial Day program Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Veteran’s Park, west of Boca Raton,9400 W. Palmetto Park Road, betweenLyons Roadand State Road 7.

This free event will pay tribute to our nation’s veterans who have fought and died in wars. It will feature a procession of colors, guest speakers, and patriotic music. The public is invited to attend.

This event is sponsored by Palm BeachCountyand is coordinated jointly by the Veterans Coalition and thePalm Beach County Parks and Recreation Special Events Section.

Also on Monday, a special ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at theSouthFloridaNationalCemetery,6501 South State Road7 inLake Worth. This ceremony is sponsored by the Palm Beach County Veterans Committee, who will be joined by members from over a dozen different veterans’ organizations.
