al luncheon, held at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts Cohen Pavilion on Wednesday, May 9. Nominees from Boca Regional are:

Lifetime Achievement Award:

Martin Rubenberg, MD, Retired Hematology/Oncology

Physician International Hero Finalists:
Howard Goldman, MD, Ophthalmology

Physician Local/National Hero Finalists:
Joseph Forstot, MD, Rheumatology

The Awards distinguish both individuals and organizations in the healthcare field that provide exceptional services to meet the needs of the community. Nominees were judged by a committee established by the Palm Beach County Medical Society Services. The categories include:

Bruce Rendina Professional Hero – Recognizes an individual whose profession is an integral part of the healthcare system but is not a direct provider of patient care who utilizes abilities to improve the health of the local, national and/or global communities.
Community Outreach Hero – Recognizes an individual, company, institution, organization or agency that has devoted time, skills and/or other resources to assist others and/or contribute to the betterment of healthcare.
Healthcare Provider Hero (Non-Physician) – This award recognizes an individual or group who may be direct providers of healthcare, but are not physicians.
Physician Hero (International) – This award recognizes an M.D. or a D.O. who embodies the characteristics of the profession and has contributed to the betterment of healthcare outside the U.S., or has made outstanding contributions to medical education outside the U.S.
Physician Hero (Local/National) – Recognizes an M.D or a D.O who embodies the characteristics of the profession and has contributed to the betterment of healthcare locally and/or nationally, or has made outstanding contributions to medical education.

Proceeds from the ceremony benefit Project Access, a group of physician volunteers that help provide healthcare to low-income and uninsured residents of Palm Beach County.
